Come explore Nordsjælland with me! (Part 1) *save Come explore Nordsjælland with me! (Part 1) *save this day trip idea 👉🏼

For just an hour of a train ride out (S-tog A), you can get to Hillerød, a city north of Copenhagen. Explore Frederiksborg Slot, a 17th-century castle and its beautiful baroque gardens; stop for lunch at Nødebo town and sit next to the largest lake in Denmark by volume Esrum Sø; hike through Gribskov’s trails and then take the lokaltog — a cute yellow local train that’s super cozy, clean and actually runs through forests on the Danish countryside (yes, there are stations in the forest)!

P/S: apparently locals call the lokaltog “grisen” which literally translates to “the pig”, as it looks like a pig from the front 🐷

Would you take this day trip? 💭
OK WHO ELSE?! 🤣 OK WHO ELSE?! 🤣

Temperatures are finally getting warm enough this week to just be in a single layer out in the sun ☀️

And YAAAAS, I don’t care if I look silly. I’m that #nohelmetnoride friend. Always #safetyfirst - I knew about too many bicycle concussions even before I moved over to Denmark so I’m cautious… after almost having lost my own life to a scooter crash once 😅

Did you know that scientists have proven that we f Did you know that scientists have proven that we feel more relaxed just by looking at water, on a biological level? 💦

Seeing or hearing the soothing sounds of moving water triggers a response in our brains that induces a flood of neurochemicals. These chemicals increase blood flow to the brain and heart, which induces relaxation. The “blue mind” effect explained by Marine Biologist Wallace J. Nichols highlights how looking at or being near water can bring us multiple benefits including reducing stress and anxiety, increasing happiness, lowering our heart rate, and other things that extend beyond just feeling calmer. 💙

When was the last time you visited a body of water (lake, river, ocean, etc)? 🌀🌀
HANDS UP IF YOU’RE THAT FRIEND WHO LIKES PICKING HANDS UP IF YOU’RE THAT FRIEND WHO LIKES PICKING UP RANDOM STUFF WHILE HIKING 🙋🏻‍♀️

(Today’s pick was a bird’s feather!)

In other news, God Bededag aka Good Prayer Day everyone! It’s a public holiday in Denmark today (but unfortunately everyone’s last as they’re removing it next year). A little exploring turned out to be a 7km hike around Fuserø lake. I wasn’t dressed for it but thankfully with my @blundstone I’m #alwaysready for a hike 😎 Lots of endorphins from being out and active in nature despite the windy day 😍

I hope you had a lovely time in nature today! 🌲🌲
Documenting my first ever multi-day ski trip in Å Documenting my first ever multi-day ski trip in Åre, Sweden during Easter🎿⛷️

Despite falling ill to a non-ski related virus right at the end, I’m so thankful I said yes to spontaneously joining this trip with some colleagues and friends 🥰

This trip was a lot about overcoming fear. My 1st time skiing was somewhere near New York City when I was 21. I had a ball of a time and instantly fell in love with skiing after an hour’s worth of a lesson. I even saw myself skiing off a ramp with great control within the next 2 hours. I seemed pretty confident about myself and felt fearless.

Then I started work and the pandemic hit… before I knew it I hadn’t skied in 6 years. So I decided to take some time off to ski on a solo trip I had to Spain. Conversely, I found myself struggling so much: I fell LOTS of times, REALLY HARD, and had this overwhelming sense of FEAR. I also got really frustrated with myself trying to reconcile why I could not perform. Not to mention, I caught covid 🤣

So this trip was a lot about overcoming my past fears! I finally broke through the green slopes to get to blue, and could actually enjoy amazing snowy mountain views alongside the feeling of exhilaration and excitement again. I found myself getting back into the hang of turns and techniques, luckily with the advice of the kind people I was with who having been skiing since they were kids. It’s not easy picking up something new when you’re almost 30, while everyone around you has been skiing for decades: persevering, having courage and staying positive is really important. I can see why people love skiing now - sick views, adrenaline rush, great workout in winter and a challenge for everyone at every level!

Even though summer’s right around the corner, I’m already looking forward to the next ski season so I can get better hehehehe 👀

It’s truly a shame such a beautiful and exhilarating sport is most at risk to global warming though. Breaks my heart thinking about it all the time. Hopefully we find some way to reverse this pronto.

In other news, days are getting a lot sunnier and longer. Maybe it’s the 29489227th time you’re hearing me say this but it’s really something 100% worth celebrating 🎉

Yesterday was Earth Day 🌎 My question to you is Yesterday was Earth Day 🌎 My question to you is: How far off-the-grid would you go?

I grew up in a dense city with little room to disconnect, so I’d take any chance to go off-the-grid that I can get. Earth is just so gorgeous.

Give this girl snow-capped mountains and lots of hiking trails… she’ll be satisfied for weeks on end not needing to talk to anyone. Hanging out with Earth is enough for me 🤣
WHO’S READY FOR HIKING SEASON?! 🙋🏻‍♀️🥾

Had all my summer hiking plans lined up since months ago 🙈 Can you believe we’re only about 1.5 months to summer (aka June)??? 🤯 I. AM. BEYOND. STOKED!!!! 🔥

I’ve been looking back at old photos and videos thinking about all the great hikes I had last year. The highlight was definitely doing half of the Walker’s Haute Route thru-hike in August. I absolutely loved it. I wrote a comprehensive guide on my experience in my blog (link in bio)! Check it out especially if you want some tips, or have been considering to do a thru-hike yourself 🤛🏼

This year, I’m gonna hike and wild camp even more 😍 (Any guesses where I’ll be headed? Hint: you’ll find me in the mountains 😛)

Have you planned out your hiking trips? Share where you’re most excited to head to in the comments below!! 👇🏼
